Service Description
This course examines non-firearm alternatives available for defensive use. That you choose not to carry a handgun for self-defense, is 100% your personal decision, and your decision is to be respected at face value. We legitimately could include any one of the more than 3,300 martial arts that exist world wide. However, achieving genuine proficiency in a martial art can take considerable time. To be certain, martial arts proficiency literally can take years. It quite simply is not achievable in a 2 to 3 hour course. That acknowledged, many people are unaware that there are several viable and effective alternatives to a concealed handgun, such as a Taser. However, to carry a concealed Taser in Michigan, one must have completed the 8-hour MCPL course, and possess a valid MCPL. In addition, one must have completed the 3-hour Taser course. As such, in this course, we focus on other options for less lethal defense means. We will examine various types of **pepper sprays** (fog, jet stream, gel and foam). Too, we will examine various striking devices such as a defensive/tactical flashlights, and pepper ball launchers such as Byrna. There literally are dozens viable options, all considered less lethal. Students will consider which less-lethal alternatives best fit their lifestyle, and the risks associated with using them. Any weapon, even considered less lethal, remains a weapon, and can result in civil liability, and criminal charges. The course places intensive focus on situational awareness, the 4 color codes, and best practices for enhancing your security, while honoring your desire to avoid concealed carrying a handgun. **Pepper spray is a controlled defensive device, with age and potency restrictions. Keep pepper spray, and all other defensive devices, away from unauthorized users. Allowing access to others, even inadvertently, can result in criminal charges against you, if loss or injury befalls someone as a result of your negligence. Always store your defensive items securely.** These courses are scheduled for a day, time and location of the students' request. The instructor travels to the students' venue for their comfort.
